Assam Rifles Jawan Killed in Militant Ambush in Arunachal Pradesh

GUWAHATI: An Assam Rifles personnel was killed and another injured in an ambush by insurgents in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district on Sunday, October 4.


Militants of proscribed outfits ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) are suspected to have been involved in the ambush, reports PTI.


The deceased jawan has been identified as Havildar Birendra Singh. The injured jawan has been admitted to a hospital. 


"The ambush took place near Tengmo village in Jairampur sub-division around 9 am when the Assam Rifles personnel were returning to their camp in a water tanker after fetching water," district Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo said.


He added that the exchange of fire lasted for around 30 minutes. 


A massive combined search operation by Assam Rifles, the state police and the CRPF is underway.
