Assam: Rhino Poacher Apprehended under Kamargaon Police Station

GUWAHATI: A joint team of Kamargaon police and forest personnel reached the spot and apprehended a rhino poacher with the help of the locals. 

The detained poacher has been identified as Gagam Iko of Arunachal Pradesh. 

It is to be mentioned that the locals of the Lohor Chapori area detected some suspicious movements of unidentified persons in the area and informed Kamargaon police about it. 

According to reports, a rhino came out from the protected areas of Kaziranga National Park and was roaming around islands of River Brahmaputra near Numaligarh since last month. 

The rhino was seen in Lohor Chapori area near Kamargaon in Numaligarh since last a few days. The forest and police department were keeping a strict vigil on the movement of the rhino. Kamargaon police received inputs about presence of a rhino poacher in the area and a joint team of police and foresters was assigned to track down the poacher. 

Two riffles and a huge amount of bullets were also recovered from the detained poacher.

As per information received from the locals, There were one or two more suspects but they fled the scene while only Gagam Iko has been detained in the combined effort of Foresters, Police and locals.

The detained poacher is now in the custody of Kamargaon police and the investigation is on. 

The nature and wildlife Conservationist groups have lauded the efforts of foresters, police and also public of the area for derailing the malicious intention of the poachers to kill the world heritage one horned rhino.
