GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has given its approval to a reservation policy for admissions into Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) aimed at promoting equitable representation for various communities.

The reservation policy addresses the need to ensure fair access to technical education among these backward communities. The policy particularly focuses on providing reservations to students from communities such as Tai Ahom, Moran, Matak, Chutia, and Koch Rajbongshi, among others, falling under the OBC (Other Backward Classes) and MOBC (More Other Backward Classes) categories.

The allocation of seats under the 27 per cent OBC/MOBC reservation has been planned to provide representation to different communities. The breakdown of reserved seats is 213 seats for Koch Rajbongshi, 164 seats for Tai Ahom, 147 seats for Chutia, 131 seats for Moran and 131 seats for Matak.

To address any vacant seats in ITIs, a procedure has been outlined. After the fourth and fifth e-Counselling rounds for all reserved categories, remaining registered and verified candidates from reserved categories will be considered. These candidates will be selected based on their merit and the available vacant seats will be filled accordingly.
