Assam Receives Rs 1441.48 Cr as Tax Share from Centre

GUWAHATI: Assam received Rs 1441.48 crores from the central government on April 20 as devolution of the central taxes for states.

With the ongoing crisis to fight the coronavirus pandemic, Assam government has welcomed the Centre’s move which would further aid in providing relief to the citizens.       

Sharing the news on Twitter, state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote: 
“Despite having little by way of tax revenues, Hon PM Sri @narendramodi & FM Smt @nsitharaman have ensured disbursal of share of central taxes to states. Assam also got 1st instalment of devolution to the tune of Rs 1441.48 cr which is a big relief at this hour. My gratitude.”

The Centre released total funds amounting to Rs 46, 038.70 crores for all the states.

It is to be mentioned that Sarma had recently said that some economic measures will be announced for the state soon. 

He added that union finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, has assured all financial help to every state government and that a meeting of all state finance ministers will soon take place with the union finance minister to discuss state of economies.
