Assam: Raw diamond worth Rs 10 crore seized in Hailakandi, two held

GUWAHATI: The Assam Rifles on June 25 seized 1,667-gram of raw diamond worth Rs 10 crores from the possession of two women in Hailakandi district of Assam.

According to reports, a team of Assam Rifles recovered the diamond from a bag when they searched an auto-rickshaw at Monacherra, 9 km from Hailakandi town.

The two women, identified as Monia Sangma and Minati Sangma, were arrested and upon interrogation, they revealed that the precious stones were given to them by a cousin for selling it in the market. The cousin works in a coal mine in Meghalaya and was going to give the diamond to a customer.

The Assam Rifles handed over the two arrested women and the diamond to the police at Lala police station.
