Assam Police Warns Against Rumour-Mongering Amid Fears Of Violence

 

GUWAHATI: Assam Police has issued a stern warning against the spread of rumours in various parts of the state, cautioning citizens about the potential consequences of such actions.

Reports of kidnappings and abductions circulating on social media platforms have sparked fears of a resurgence of violence similar to past incidents.

In a statement, authorities urged citizens to refrain from forwarding or sharing unverified information regarding child abductors and kidnapping rumours. The dissemination of such rumours has led to heightened anxiety among the populace, with concerns of a potential recurrence of violent events.

The police emphasised the importance of verifying information before sharing it and urged the public to report any suspicious activity immediately. The warning comes amidst heightened tensions and apprehensions in the state, after a Nepalese woman was reportedly lynched by a mob in the Lower Haflong area of Dima Hasao on March 25.
