GUWAHATI: In a bid to efficiently fight back the growing terror of insurgents in the state and to upgrade the armament of the state police, the Assam Police has decided to upgrade its weaponry.
The upgradation will be on par with the National Security Guards (NSG).

According to a report in The Assam Tribune, the Assam Police headquarters will be requesting the Director General of the NSG to share a detailed profile of the lethal weapons that are currently being used by the Special Action Group (SAG) and the Special Ranger Group (SRG), based on which the Assam police will procure new generation weapons.
It is to be mentioned that with outfits like ULFA and NDFB well-equipped with German-made weapons as was evident in some recent incidents of ambush and encounters in the region, hence to tackle this problem, the upgradation is a must.
