Assam Police & GMCH Launch 6 Helpline Numbers for Mental Health Care & Support

GUWAHATI: As the 21-day lockdown to fight against the coronavirus pandemic continues, and it is speculated to be extended further, many people are deprived of regular health services, either due to lack of transportation, non-availability of regular clinics or other reasons.

Many are also experiencing psychological stress given the crisis and the difficult times, not to forget about the patients with mental illness.

Amidst the lockdown, the Assam Police has now initiated the process of consultation of psychiatric and psychologists over phone.

A press release, by the Assam Police stated that in view of the psychological stress being faced by people due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the department in association with the Department of Psychiatry, GMCH and Clinical Psychologists/psychiatric Social Workers have launched tele-counselling helplines for those in need of mental health care and support.

A total of six helpline numbers have been initiated in this regard, which would be operational in two shifts for tele-counselling.

The first shift starts from 9 am till 3 pm and the helpline numbers from this shift are 6026901053/54/55.

The second shift starts from 3 pm and continues till 9 pm. The consulting phone numbers for this shift are 6026901056/57/58
