Assam Police Bust Illegal VoIP Routing Centres In Guwahati, Two Detained

GUWAHATI: Assam Police busted two Guwahati-based illegal international Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) routing centres on June 4 and detained two persons in this connection.

Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said the detention were made after receiving “professional inputs” about the two centres. Both of them were connected to a private company based in Rajamundry, Andhra Pradesh, he added.

The two accused have been identified as Birendra Baruah and Rajesh Shiva, both administrators of the two centres.  Their operation has led to huge revenue losses to the Exchequer, the DGP said. Police also seized an unspecified of suspect equipment from the two.

They were part of the same group that had set up another call centre at Upasana Complex that was busted by Assam Police earlier on May 8, DGP Mahanta wrote on Twitter.

Further investigations are underway in this case.
