Assam Police arrests one in Girish Dutta murder case

GUWAHATI: A special investigating team of Assam Police on Tuesday arrested one Mintu Chetia for his alleged involvement in the murder of police commando Girish Dutta at Makum in Tinsukia district of Assam. Dutta was stabbed to death by an unidentified gang on Sunday, June 2.

Interacting with the media, Additional Superintendent of Police of Tinsukia Asif Ali said, “Accused Chetia who was at large after the incident has been arrested from Barekuri Borgaon area in Makum and he is being interrogated.”

Dutta got into a heated argument with a group of unidentified people over an accident on NH-38 while returning home in Ashok Nagar from Tingrai. Even though he left the spot, the group of men followed him and later dragged him out of his home and stabbed him to death on the road.
