Assam Police Arrests 2 Prime Accused in Sanatan Deka Lynching Case

GUWAHATI: Assam’s Kamrup district witnessed a horrifying incident of mob lynching when a group of five men beat a vegetable seller to death on May 24. The victim has been identified as Sanatan Deka.

Following the incident, the Kamrup Police registered a case and the Hajo police started the search for the accused. The Assam Police successfully arrested two of the prime accused men. The other three accused have also reportedly been traced.

Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) of Assam Police, G P Singh took to twitter on May 26, announcing the same.

“The two prime accused of the Sanatan Deka murder case of Hajo (Kamrup) - 1) Faizur Hoque @ Dali, 2) Eyusuf Uddin Ahmed, have been apprehended in connection with Hajo PS case no. 480/2020 u/s 120(B)/302 IPC @assampolice,” he tweeted.

A resident of Tetelia village, Sanatan Deka, the vegetable vendor was returning home from the market on his bicycle when he collided with a car in Monahkuchi village near Hajo town. The occupants of the car got into a heated argument with the vendor after which all five men began to beat him up. The five men fled the scene as they saw locals approaching the spot.  

Although people who had gathered around the scene managed to take the vendor to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
