Assam Police Arrests 1258 People for Lockdown Violation

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police has arrested a total of 1258 persons till now for violation of lockdown from across the state.   

Further, as on April 8, the police had recorded a total of 1108 incidents of violation while 5871 vehicles have been detained as well. Out of this, 5358 are two-wheelers, 45 are three-wheelers, 460 four-wheelers, five trucks, on trailer and two tractors were also detained.

It is to be mentioned that a country-wide 21-day lockdown is ongoing to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The government had appealed to residents to follow the lockdown strictly or to face police action.  

Additionally, 578 cases have been registered and 12 country boats and five machine boats have also been seized. The police has also realised fine worth a total of Rs 21.73 lakh from the violators.            

Apart from this, cracking down on those spreading fake news related to COVID-19 on social media, the police has arrested 31 people till now and 51 cases have been registered.
