GUWAHATI: A permission letter and an invitation card have to be carried for the purpose of organizing and attending marriages during night curfew in Assam. This was stated by G P Singh, Special DGP of Assam after concerns were raised by the people following the night curfew order.

The Assam Government had imposed a night curfew in the state from 8 PM to 5 AM daily till May 1, 2021.

The order sparked confusion for the conduct of marriages scheduled for the said dates.

A Guwahati resident, Mannoj Agarwala took to Twitter to raise the query.

"@himantabiswa Sir, its my sister’s marriage today in Guwahati..Due to today’s night curfew rule what should i do to continue the marriage function with all covid protocols in place..n even guest are below 45 in total..traveling from venue back home in curfew hours..plz help," he posted, tagging health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to which the minister responded, "Go ahead but only with very limited people".

The decision to impose a night curfew was taken owing to the rapid increase in the number of active COVID-19 cases across the state.
