Assam: Over 900 Arrests Made, 370 Cases Registered as People Continue to Violate Lock-down

GUWAHATI: Amid the 21-day nationwide lockdown, Assam Police has reportedly made 910 arrests so far in the state with 370 cases being registered.

As informed by GP Singh, ADGP Law and Order, total number of incidents reported till 9AM on March 3 stands at 663. Additionally, 3580 vehicles have been detained since March 25, 2020.

It is to be mentioned that in one such incident, police personnel fired in the air at a market place in Assam on March 28 after people pelted stones at them.

The firing incident happened at Bhawlaguri market near New Bongaigaon Railway Junction when few teenage boys gathered in a market in the morning hours to open their shops. 

A similar incident of pelting of stones on police was reported in Chapar in Dhubri district, where six arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident.

In Hojai, Health department workers were reportedly assaulted by a home-quarantined youth when they came to check on him.

Till now in Assam, 22 positive case of Coronavirus have been reported and hundreds of suspected people have been placed under quarantine post Nizamuddin Markaz episode.
