Assam: Over 3,000 Kg of Ganja Seized This Year

GUWAHATI: To counter the growing menace of drugs, the Assam Police has necessitated a drive to seize addictive substances. 


Speaking to reporters, DGP Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, highlighted that illegal substances such as Ganja, Opium, Morphine have been seized in huge quantity by the Assam government.

Overall from January, 2020 to August 31, 2020, the state police have nabbed 3019 Kg of Ganja, 9.27 Kg Heroine, 8.625 Kg opium among other addictive substances.  


The cases reported have gone up by 49.6% since 26th June till 30th Aug, 2020.

 
“The cases reported reflect pro-active action by police as each case represents a successful search resulting in recovery in NDPS substances”, said Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta. There has been a jump of 46.13% in number of persons arrested since 26th June, 2020 till 30th Aug, 2020. 


Similarly, the recovery of Heroin, Ganja and Psychotropic Substance Tablets has gone up by 53.6%, 60.04% and 274% respectively. As per the Assam Police, the sustained drive has weakened the network of drug traffickers. Police have been able to recover huge quantity of cash and NDPS substances starting from 26th June, 2020.
