Assam: Over 200 Arrests Made, 126 Cases Registered as People Continue to Break Lockdown

GUWAHATI: Assam Police on day four of the 21-day nationwide lockdown against COVID-19 reportedly made 241 arrests have been made so far in the state with 126 cases registered.

In one such incident, police personnel fired in the air at a market in Assam on March 28 after people pelted stones at them.

Singha Ram Mili, the Superintendent of Police, Bongaigaon said a police party came under attack on Saturday at Boda Bazar area, which is about three kilometres from Bongaigaon town. Seven persons have also been arrested in connection with the incident.

Meawhile, Assam government has ordered closure of all markets except, grocery shops and pharmacies until further orders after people thronged to the markets to buy food supplies in view of the lockdown.
