Assam: Over 16,000 Teachers to be Provincialized Ahead of Elections

Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in an early morning press conference on 3rd February, announced the provincialization of educational institutions across the state that is to be ceremoniously held on 5th February.

 

In this second phase of provincializations, 9895 teachers under the Director of Elementary Education will be benefited. The provincialization will come into effect from 1st January. 

 

1698 LP or primary schools will provincialized benefiting 3309 teachers. Another 6586 teachers of ME or upper primary schools will be benefited due to provincialization of 2107 schools.

 

“However, as all of these teachers do not have the necessary professional qualification as necessary under norms, those teachers will be appointed as provincialized tutors,” said Sarma.

 

266 high schools will be provincialized affecting 2269 teaching and non-teaching staff. 4 higher secondary schools will also be provincialised benefiting 31 teachers.

 

As for senior secondary institutions or junior colleges, 15 of these will provincialized, 2306 teachers receiving the benefits. 

 

“4996 additional staff under the Secondary Education will also be benefited who have been working in additionally created posts in the earlier provincialized schools,” informed the educational minister.

 

33 colleges will also be provincialized under the Director of Higher Education. 693 teachers and non-teaching staff will receive the benefits. 900 teaching staff will get provincialized in the earlier provincialized colleges as they have newly attained the professional qualifications.

 

“Provincialization is an ongoing process. And those who could not be included in this phase will surely receive the benefits in the next phase. This is especially for the librarians who have been left behind,” informed the education minister.

 

A total of 16,494 teaching and non-teaching staff will be provincialized in this phase.

 

The list of the names of educational institutions and teachers who will be provincialized will be published by 12 pm on February 4 and the candidates are to reach Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati before 10 am on February 5 for the ceremony.

 

“Many teachers of the provincialized institutions might not be able to work for long. But the government has announced a gratuity under the National Pension Scheme. But they will receive an amount of Rs. 10 lakh under this scheme even though they have worked for just one day,” informed Himanta Biswa Sarma.
