A complaint was received by the DVAC, alleging that Nurul Hoque Barbhuiya, a Patwari in the Sadar Circle of Cachar, Silchar, had demanded a bribe of ₹30,000 from the complainant. The bribe was allegedly demanded for payment of compensation for land acquired for the construction of a four-lane road.

The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the Directorate seeking legal action against the public servant. In response, a trap was set by a DVAC team at the office of the Settlement Officer for Cachar & Hailakandi Districts in Silchar.

Nurul Hoque Barbhuiya was caught red-handed in the office shortly after accepting ₹5,000 as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Finding sufficient evidence against him, Barbhuiya was arrested in connection with the case. A case has been registered at the ACB Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Further legal action is underway.
