Assam: NRC Body Recommends Replacing 2500 Officials

GUWAHATI: Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) authority has suggested the release of close to 2,500 officials who are engaged with the registration process and to replace them with a new set of officials.

These officials are employed as local registrar of citizens registration (LRCR) and are responsible for display of the records as well as for the issue and receipt of application forms etc. after publication of records and verification of applicants.

According to TOI, the state NRC coordinator wrote to deputy commissioners and registrar of citizens’ registration from all districts to release the LRCRS and assistant LRCRS and their replacement will be provided.

It is to be mentioned that the overhauling comes at a time when the entire exercise remains suspended. As per reports, these LRCR officials have not been able to avail transfer and posting since they were engaged in NRC work.

As per TOI, an official said, “Development works have suffered for officers engaged in NRC could not be engaged in any other work. Now, we have decided to life the ban and allow the officers who have got transfer to avail the same and go in new posting.”
