GUWAHATI: Assam and Meghalaya have recorded the highest June rainfall in 121 years with 858.1 mm, breaking the earlier record of 789.5 mm recorded in 1966, as reported by the climate summary for June prepared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which was released on Wednesday, July 6.
The average maximum, minimum and mean temperature for the country as a whole during June 2022 were 34.12 degrees Celsius, 25.06 degrees Celsius and 29.59 degrees Celsius respectively, against the normal of 33.73 degrees Celsius, 24.76 degrees Celsius and 29.25 degrees celsius based on the period of 1981-2010.
Thus, the average maximum, average minimum temperature and mean temperature have drastically increased by 0.40 degrees Celsius, 0.29 degrees Celsius, 0.35 degrees Celsius respectively for the entire country. This shows a direct trend of global warming and environmental degradation. These surprising numbers are a resounding witness of Climate Change.
