Assam: Massive Crowd at BJP Rally in BTC Raises COVID-19 Concerns

GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pijush Hazarika and Minister of State for Urban Development and Health and Family Welfare held a rally at Goibari Constituency, Tamulpur for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.

The meeting gathered a huge crowd, which raised concerns as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Assam.

Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora remarked on the incident to G Plus. "He is the health minister and himself violating the health protocol," said the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued guidelines to undergo elections during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Election Commission of Assam adopted the guidelines given by ECI. As such, holding rallies is not a violation of COVID-19 protocol.
