Assam Lockdown: Excise Dept Raids in Guwahati, 3 Arrested

GUWAHATI: Excise department conducted raids in different parts of the city and arrested three persons in connection with producing illicit liquor on March 29. 

The department also seized over 70 litres of illicit liquor in two different raids conducted in the city. The officials conducted extensive excise raids at various locations including Beltola, Bakrapara, Bhetapara and Dhirenpara. One person was arrested from this raid and 50 litres of local liquor, six cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was seized.

Here, the officials also destroyed three sets of distilling apparatus, 2.5 quintals of rice and sugar which is used to manufacture local liquor. They further destroyed 300 kilograms of fermented wash.  

In another raid, two women were arrested at Hengrabari Lichubagan, and the authorities seized 30 litres of illicit liquor.

It is to be mentioned that in a recent order, the deputy commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) had asked the excise branch to conduct enforcement drives regularly in order to curb sale and illegal possession of liquor during the lockdown.
