GUWAHATI: The Women and Child Development Department of Assam has released the latest data on the status of Anganwadi centres in the state. The data revealed that out of the 999 Anganwadi centres that were supposed to be completed under SOPD, 965 have been constructed. However, it only goes downhill from there.

2000 Anganwadi centres were supposed to be built under NIDA. However, construction work has been initiated in only 331 of them. Notably, no construction work has been started at all in the Majuli district.

220 Anganwadi centres were supposed to be constructed under RIDF Phase-I, but construction work has begun in only 76 of them. Worryingly, no construction work has started in the districts of Chirang, Darrang, Lakhimpur and Morigaon.

Furthermore, 1,000 Anganwadi centres were supposed to be constructed under RIDF Phase-II but no construction work has started at all under this phase.

An additional 205 Anganwadi centres were supposed to be constructed under the Directorate of Welfare of SC & BC Component. Shockingly, construction work has begun in only four of them. All districts barring Baksa and Charaideo have failed to start the required construction work.
