Aimed at celebrating the rich heritage of the tea tribe community, this performance will take place prior to the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, to be held on February 25-26. Each participant will receive ₹25,000 as an encouragement, while every tea garden in Assam will be granted ₹25,000 to establish Jhumoir-based cultural clubs, ensuring the preservation and promotion of this traditional dance form.
“This performance will be attended by honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself,” Sarma told reporters after a review of the dance performance, “along with honourable External Affairs Minister Jaishankar too.”
Apart from discussing about the preparations, Sarma also highlighted the significance of the upcoming summit. “Envoys from over 60 nations will attend,” the chief minister added. “This initiative has been taken to showcase the 200-year-old cultural tradition of our tea tribe communities to the whole world.”
When pressed about a potential world record being clocked from the Jhumur performance, Sarma was quick to downplay the topic. “World records don’t matter,” he said. “We are not targeting any world records here; records happen and break at their own pace. What we want to highlight from this performance is that there are 800 tea gardens in Assam, and all of them have contributed to keeping this tradition alive for so long.”
