GUWAHATI: The Assam government announced the establishment of the Barak Valley Development Department to bring governance closer to the residents of Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj districts. This was approved at a state cabinet meeting held on Saturday, December 7.

The new department is expected to expedite developmental initiatives, create job opportunities, and address regional disparities effectively.
Additionally, the government also sanctioned a production-linked incentive of ₹2 per litre for ethanol derived from grains in a bid to encourage cleaner energy alternatives and enhance farmers' income.
This incentive will be available for three years, specifically benefitting ethanol manufacturing units, as it aims to mark a step towards a more sustainable and greener economy.
