GUWAHATI: A grant programme for permanent repair of properties such as roads and embankments damaged by floods this year will be started by the Assam government. The assembly was informed about the same on Wednesday, July 31.

Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the grant, called the Flood Damage Repairing Grant, will be distributed to the affected districts in addition to the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

The Centre and state government share 90% and 10% respectively to repair only the damaged part of a property in case of SDRF.

However, the grant will be used to repair the weak parts around the damaged area of a property to make sure that the entire structure becomes stronger and is not damaged again, mentioned Sarma.

He also informed that the grant will be given by the state exchequer. The water resources department will be allocated Rs. 500 crore, of which Rs. 200 crore will be given first and Rs. 300 crore will be given within March of next year.
