Assam Govt Orders Mandatory Service Stints for Medical Students in Majuli

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, on Tuesday, asked the state’s health department to set up a medical team involving PG Diploma doctors of the state to ensure an essential service stint of 90 days for patients in Majuli.


For this specialised treatment, gynaecologists, paediatricians, anaesthesiologists etc shall be included to ensure proper service to the patients in Majuli.


“After a team completes its mandatory stay of 90 days, a new team of doctors comprising specialists would visit the district for another 90-day period. This facility of treatment by specialist doctors in batches would continue uninterrupted,” stated the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).


Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also asked senior doctors cum faculty members of Assam Medical College and Jorhat Medical College to alternately pay a visit to the island district of Majuli.


It was also reported that a post-mortem facility will be introduced in Garmur civil hospital of Majuli besides dedicating the two-storey building of civil hospital to the service of the people later this month.


“Other facilities like major and minor operation theatres, X-Ray, CT scan, ultrasonography, laboratory facilities, Sick New Born Care (SNBC) Unit would feature in the new building. Moreover, for serious patients, there would be separate counters in Assam Medical College and Jorhat Medical College in Dibrugarh and Jorhat respectively,” the statement added.
