Assam Govt Helps People Stranded Outside Owing to Lockdown

GUWAHATI: The government of Assam has sent $1000 as first installment to 21 people stranded abroad till date. On April 25, the government has decided to send second installment of $1000 to the beneficiaries. 

"Other people from Assam who are stranded outside the state or country are requested to consult @assamfin twitter handle and they shall receive help," urged finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

Additionally, the government has provided Rs 25000 aid to 213 people stranded in other parts of the state. 

This amount has been provided to those people who had gone out of the state for treatments such as liver transplant, cancer etc and were left stranded due to the lockdown.

"We have received over 900 such claims. 213 claims have been verified and they have been provided with Rs 25000. The DCs are verifying remaining claims and all verified patients shall be provided help in the next 48 hours," Sarma added.
