Assam Govt distribute Anundoram Borooah Awards 2020 but 2019 HSLC Students Yet to Receive Laptops

The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) students of the 2019 batch have not yet received laptops all over Assam. However, the Assam government distributed the Anundoram Borooah Awards on Wednesday, September 30 among 16,944 meritorious students who scored 75% or more in HSLC exams in 2020. The state government has disbursed a total of Rs 34 crore (Rs 20,000 to each student) to buy laptops. 


This comes at a time when many districts across Assam are yet to receive the laptops to ve distributed to meritorious students of the last batch. So far, the distribution of the previous year’s laptops has been done in Biswanath, Charaideo, Dhubri, South Salmara, Dibrugarh in from September 25 and 30, as per the Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme website. Tinsukia is expected to receive the laptops on the 3rd and 4th of October.


"I have opted for the laptop. We haven't received it yet. We are expecting it in the coming months," said Swaraj from North Lakhimpur who passed his matriculation examination in the year 2019.   


Meanwhile, G Plus spoke to officials at Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme office, who revealed that "few districts are left to get the laptops but the distribution is currently underway."


The Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia criticised the state Govt over the lack of distribution of the laptops and using the Awards as a tool for the elections.
