GUWAHATI: The Governor Of Assam in a notification has declared August 23 as a public holiday in lieu of Janmashtami instead of August 24 in Assam.

The notification states that August 23 will now be observed as the Public Holiday in all Government Offices/Boards/Corporations/Institutions including Industrial Establishments under the Assam Administration instead of Public Holiday on August 24 on the account of Janmashtami.
However, the celebration of the birthday of Lord Krishna will start from the midnight of August 23 across the nation.
