“The @CMOfficeAssam has spoken to a survivor from Assam of the dastardly #PahalgamTerrorAttack and has taken a full brief of the incident which they have faced yesterday,” Sarma posted on X. “The entire family's return to the State is being arranged on priority and the Govt of Assam is in touch with Govt of India to bring the family back to Assam at the earliest.”

The terror attack occurred on Tuesday, April 22, at Baisaran meadow, a scenic tourist destination near Pahalgam, also referred to as ‘mini Switzerland’. At least 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed when armed militants opened fire after reportedly checking the religion of their victims. Eyewitnesses recounted that the attackers spared a few survivors deliberately, asking them to “tell this to Modi”.

Security agencies have launched an intensive manhunt across the region, with reports confirming that one militant has been killed while four others remain at large. Sketches of the suspects have also been released, as they have been identified as Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha, with code names Moosa, Yunus, and Asif. These individuals are believed to be affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and have previous links to terror activity in Poonch.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
