This was approved in the state Cabinet meeting on Friday, September 13.

Briefing the press after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that these teachers were initially hired under the previous Congress regime with a starting salary of Rs 12,000. In 2021, the BJP government took further steps to improve their conditions by raising their retirement age to 60, and aligning their salaries with those of regular teachers.

"Today, the Cabinet has decided to fully regularise these 4,669 teachers, granting them the same status as teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan," Sarma said.

Besides, the chief minister has also announced the implementation of Orunodoi 3.0, a partnership with Dassault to implement an aerospace and defence training hub in Assam, and the upcoming construction of a new sports stadium in Kokrajhar.
