GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet approved the conversion of loans and grants provided to three state power utility companies into equity on Thursday, December 19.

The companies are namely, Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited (AEGCL), and Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL).
The decision aligns with the Indian Government Accounting Standard (IGAS) - 4, which permits such financial restructuring measures to strengthen the performance and sustainability of public utilities.
The specific amounts to be converted into equity include ₹397.39 crore for APDCL, ₹19.89 crore for AEGCL, and ₹520.38 crore for APGCL.
