GUWAHATI: A massive 17-foot-long Burmese python, weighing approximately 100 kilograms, was rescued from the Assam University campus in Silchar late on Wednesday, December 18. The discovery of the reptile created a stir among students and staff, who immediately informed wildlife officials.

The rescue operation, which began late at night, involved a team of 12-13 members from the Barak Valley Wildlife Division.
Talking to GPlus, Trikal chakrabarty wildlife Conservationist Barak valley said, "We successfully rescued the python around 11:45 p.m. It has since been released into a reserve forest within its natural homing range in Silchar. The area is an ideal habitat for reptiles, offering safety and minimal human interference."
He also added, "Burmese python is one of the biggest python species of all the python family. It can grow upto 20ft -24 ft. In the Barak valley region, I rescued reptiles as long as 13.5 ft , but this is a record breaking thing that was rescued. It is 17 ft long and weighs 100 kg."
