The Assam government has introduced a new insurance policy for its employees, offering extensive life and disability coverage at no premium cost. The state cabinet gave its nod to the initiative on Wednesday, September 4.

The new policy provides substantial coverage, including ₹10 lakh in life insurance, and ₹1 crore for accidental death. In addition, it offers ₹1 crore for permanent disability and ₹80 lakh for partial disability.
The insurance will be managed through an agreement with the State Bank of India or another commercial bank.
This insurance coverage will be over and above the regular benefits applicable to state government employees. The government aims to provide financial stability for its employees and their family members by offering zero-premium-based insurance coverage.
