Assam Government Introduces Scholarship For Students Of Tea Tribe Community

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a meeting of SLAC for Tea Tribe Welfare with Minister Pallab Lochan Das, MLAs and other officials at Guwahati’s Janata Bhawan on Wednesday, October 23.

In the meeting, Sonowal introduced the Special Tea Tribes Scholarship scheme, under which, scholarship of Rs 10,000 will be provided to 10th and 12th passed students of the community.

The scheme will be named after community leader Simon Singh Horo.

The CM directed officials to appoint 'Shramik Mitra', a nodal officer at every tea garden of the state.

The CM further asked officials to work on providing free sugar to Tea Garden community beneficiaries from December.

Officials were also directed to form a committee for organising Tea Tribe Cultural Fest at Tinsukia, Guwahati and Karimganj.
