GUWAHATI: An approval has been provided for the amendment of Rule 4 of the Assam Food Security Rules, 2022 to expand the provision of free rice to vulnerable households, by the Assam Government, during the State Cabinet Meeting on January 7 to ensure food security for the underprivileged.
The proposed amendment specifically targets the inclusion of State Government muster roll employees, retired Grade IV employees of Central and State Governments, and contractual employees with an annual family income of less than ₹4 lakh under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.
By broadening the scope of beneficiaries, this aims to ensure that a wider segment of the underprivileged population has access to essential food supplies.
