GUWAHATI: As the numbers for the Under Graduate (UG) admissions come to the fore, it has been witnessed that the number of girl students admitted this year is far higher than boys. Around 33,700 girls have been admitted to various colleges across the state for UG programmes as compared to approximately 25,500 boys.
Ranoj Pegu, Assam Education Minister provided comprehensive data on the ongoing admission process. He announced that a total of 59,203 students have completed the enrolment process.
Taking to Twitter, Pegu wrote, “Admission into Degree Courses in Provincialised/Govt. Colleges are progressing smoothly through @Samarth_eGov. 59203 students have completed admission. Number of Girl students is higher than boys admitted. The 2nd merit list will be published after 12 midnight today.”
There are around 1,82,000 seats that are available for UG programmes in various colleges across the state. Around 3,57,000 applications have been received from approximately 1.8 lakh applicants.
As far as category-wise data for admissions is concerned, 25,361 students belong to the general category. Other Backward Classes (OBCs) account for the next highest number with 17,851 students. Scheduled Tribe (Plains) account for 9,189 students while Scheduled Tribe (Hills) accounts for 912 students. The total number of Scheduled Caste (SC) students admitted is 5,048 while those belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) account for 842 students.
