While inaugurating the 514 bedded hospital, Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a long-cherished dream of the people of the State has been fulfilled.

“Today, we took a giant step in providing quality healthcare to people of our state.

Recognised by the National Medical Council, 100 students have been admitted in the first batch, starting classes from today.

The Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) has been facilitated with a separate academic building and hostel. It has 80 ICUs, 7 operation theatres, and other latest machinery.

Along with the regular medical staff, there are 122 interns and 66 resident staff.

The foundation stone of the college was laid in 2011. However, after many delays, the construction work resumed in 2017.  The project has been completed at a total cost of Rs 580 crores.

CM Sarma stated that following the first five years of the MBBS course, the Assam medical education department will appeal to the National Medical Council to upgrade the college with post-graduate classes.
