Assam: Four Drown in Brahmaputra in Jorhat

GUWAHATI: Four people have drowned in the Brahmaputra River in Jorhat, Assam. on January 26. The four include Razia Tikala (24), Sophia Chauhan (9), Sahil Chauhan (15) and Rajiv Rai (30).

As per the locals, the boat capsized due to the overloading of people. 


The deaths were confirmed to G Plus by the Officer in Charge (OC) Pulibor Police Station (PS) Rubul Ali. He further stated that the boatman was asked to show around the area, which is a popular tourist destination in Jorhat, Assam.


"They are not trained boatmen and were asked privately to be taken," added the official. 


Meanwhile, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the locals helped locate the four bodies on January 27. 


The locals managed to rescue around 10 people from the same spot on January 26. This was informed to G Plus by local entrepreneur Rishan Doley.
