Assam Floods: Death toll rises to 17, 32 districts affected

GUWAHATI: Two more flood-related deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours due to floods, which has taken the death toll to 17.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) mentioned that 1,01,085 people have been hit by the floods. They are taking shelter in 226 relief camps and another 526 distribution camps have been set up in the flood-affected areas.

Based on reports, 44.96 lakh people in 32 of Assam’s 33 districts have been affected by floods as of Tuesday, July 16, 2019. 

It is to be mentioned that the central government has approved a sum of Rs. 25155.00 lakh (Two hundred fifty one crore and fifty five lakh) for relief and rehabilitation work in Assam.

The water level of Brahmaputra River at Guwahati DC Court was measured at 51.16 meters at 9:00 AM on July 16. This exceeds the danger level of 49.68 meters, but is below the previous highest flood level of 51.46 meters recorded in 2004. It is expected to fall to 51.12 meters by 12:00 noon on July 17.
