Assam Floods: 11 more dead; death toll rises to 47

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam continues to severely affect the locals of the state. On July 19, Friday, 11 more people died, taking the death toll to 47, while 48.87 lakh people from 27 of the 33 districts have been affected. 

Of the 11 deaths, five were reported from Dhubri district and three each were reported from Barpeta and Morigaon, stated the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

A total of 1.79 lakh hectare agricultural land was submerged and around 90 percent of Kaziranga National Park and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has been severely affected by the floods.

More than 1.47 lakh displaced people are now situated in 755 relief camps and 304 relief distribution centres set up by the administrators.

It should be noted that these floods have affected over 22 lakh big and small animals, including 23 lakh poultry birds. 

NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in rescue operations in 27-flood hit districts.
