Assam Filmmaker Dara Ahmed Passes Away At 72

GUWAHATI: Popular filmmaker from Assam, Dara Ahmed passed away at Apollo hospital in Guwahati on Monday, May 24. He was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, May 23 after he started experiencing chest pains. He was 72 years at the time of his demise.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his deep condolence at the demise of the filmmaker. He tweeted, "I am saddened by the demise of the popular director of the Assamese film world, Dara Ahmed. His demise has created a vacuum in the Assamese film world. I wish eternal peace for the departed soul and express deep condolence to the bereaved family members.”

Ahmed directed a number of popular Assamese films including Rikshawala (1993), Jakhini (1991), Urbashi (1995), Bordoisila (1989), Pratidan (1987), Madhuchanda (1986), Puja (1985), and more.

Ahmed was also a regular contributing writer to Assamese weekly Sadin.
