GUWAHATI: Assam's veteran journalist and eminent litterateur Homen Borgohain has died today, May 12 morning. He was 88.
The 88-year-old "Pita Putra" writer died after suffering from a heart attack. He was taken to the hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday morning after he suddenly collapsed on the floor. The Assamese writer took his last breath at Guwahati's GNRC Hospital at 6:58 AM.
Borgohain had earlier tested positive for COVID-19, but he was discharged from the GNRC hospital after his COVID test results came negative on May 7.
He was presently working as the editor-in-chief of popular Assamese newspaper 'Niyomiya Barta'. Born on December 7, 1932, the eminent writer had also worked as an Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer for a short period. Homen Borgohain is a 1978 Sahitya Akademi Award winner.
