Assam Elections 2021: BJP to Contest 92 seats, AGP to get Around 26 Seats

GUWAHATI: Ahead of the Assam Legislative Elections 2021, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to contest 90-92 seats out of the 126 constituencies in Assam. They are likely to share 25-26 seats with the alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). 


This comes after a high-level meeting was held at Delhi with the BJP high command, which was presided by Union Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J P Nadda and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with the top brass of both the BJP and the AGP.


In 2016 Assam Assembly Elections, while the BJP won 60 out of 84 seats it contested, the AGP won 14 out of 24.


From the AGP side, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, the founding member of AGP is likely to lose his Bahrampur seat. As per sources, the Lakhimpur AGP MLA Utpal Dutta will be replaced by Manab Deka from the BJP, Jayanta Malla Baruah is likely to replace AGP’s Ashok Sarma in Nalbari and BJP’s Diganta Kalita of Kamalpur is to be replaced by Satyabrata Kalita of AGP.
