Assam DGP Addresses Future Aspirations In Child Rights Week Celebration In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: As part of the ongoing Child Rights Week celebrations organised by the Assam Police, Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh IPS interacted with youngsters from all Children's Homes at the Assam Police Headquarters, Guwahati on November 16.

The session addressed various aspects of the children's futures, encompassing education, career aspirations, upbringing, and the collective responsibility of both the police and society to ensure the well-being of children.

During the interactive session, DGP GP Singh emphasised the importance of creating a conducive environment for children to dream big and pursue their aspirations. He stated, "Children should be able to dream big, and we as a society should be able to create the appropriate context so that children can stay safe and can achieve their dreams."

Following the insightful discussion, a Q&A session allowed the children to pose questions on diverse topics, including preparation for competitive exams, understanding police operations and administration, ensuring the safety and rights of children, and the civic duties of citizens. The children also shared suggestions during this interactive exchange.

After the program, the young participants had the opportunity to tour the DGP Office and engage in photo sessions with the official chairs of both the DGP and Special DGP. The event was attended by presence of Harmeet Singh, Special DGP, Assam Police HQ, Madhulika Jonathan, Chief of UNICEF Assam, and other dignitaries from UNICEF and the Women & Child Development Department, Government of Assam.

The ongoing Child Rights Week celebrations, commencing on November 14, will continue until World Children's Day on November 20. This celebration is part of the Sishu Mitra Programme, a collaborative initiative between the Assam Police, UNICEF, and UTSAH, aimed at ensuring the protection and promotion of child rights in the state.
