This decision was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following a state cabinet meeting that chaired on Monday, December 23.

Plans for the same will include organising book fairs across all the districts, and the Assam Book Fair, to be held in Khanapara from December 27 to January 7, will serve as the first initiative to attract more readers.

Additionally, books will be distributed as New Year gifts, and government departments will establish libraries to encourage reading habits among employees and the public.

This initiative has been taken to promote literacy and intellectual development, especially among the youth.
