GUWAHATI: With 2,679 more persons being diagnosed positive for COVID-19 on August 7, Assam's total tally has now reached 55,496.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "2679 COVID cases detected out of 58531 tests in last 24 hrs. Positivity rate continues to be low at 4.57%. Kamrup (M)- 442, Kamrup (R)- 265, Cachar- 250, Nagaon- 172."
On the same day, six more COVID patients succumbed to their infections. The deceased persons were Late Praban Kumar Agarwala (57) of Dhubri, Late Sita Devi (56) of K'jhar, Late Renu Gogoi (60) of D'garh, Late Samar Deb (61) of Cachar, Late Abdul Gofur (68) of Nagaon & Late Nilmani Chakraborty (69) of Kamrup (M).

Further, with 1,585 patients being discharged from different hospitals and COVID care centres in the state, Assam now stands with 16,552 active cases as on August 7.
