Assam: Consignment Of Exotic Reptiles Seized At Jorabat

GUWAHATI: The Jorabat Police on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, seized five consignments from Imphal in Manipur which were en route to Gujarat via the neighbouring state of Meghalaya.

The five consignments comprised several boxes which were large and small in size, packed with exotic species of reptiles.

Later, when the Jorabat Police informed the Forest Department personnel about the seized consignments, a forest personnel team led by Pranjal Baruah, a Ranger of Guwahati Forest Range reached the spot and checked the documents the consignment was carrying.

However, preliminary investigation showed that these rare and exotic reptiles were being taken to Gujarat with the permission of the Central Zoo Authority of India.

Speaking to the Media, Pranjal Baruah, Ranger of Guwahati range had this to say about the whole matter, “The consignment of rare reptiles was being outsourced by a recognised NGO against an order on behalf of the Central Zoo Authority of India and now, the court order is being verified as far as the attached documents are concerned.”
