Assam CM Meets Japan Minister, Discusses Tourism Potential In State

Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke about destinations and experiences  the state can offer to Japanese visitors

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met H.E. Furukawa Yasushi, Japan’s State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on Thursday, January 23 to discuss ways to boost tourism between Japan and Assam.

Sarma spoke about destinations like Charaideo Moidams, Kaziranga National Park, Assam’s tea gardens, and its golf courses and emphasised the distinctive experiences the state can offer to Japanese travellers.

Earlier during his ongoing visit, Sarma proposed establishing a dedicated industrial park for Japanese companies looking to invest in Assam while  meeting with Japan’s State Minister of Justice, H.E. Komura Masahiro. 

Taking to social media platform X, the Assam chief minister shared, “It was an honour to meet H.E. Mr. Furukawa Yasushi, Japan’s State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism today. We spoke at length on promoting tourism between Japan and the State of Assam and its potential to bring prosperity and strengthen ties between our countries. From Charaideo Moidams to Kaziranga to our Bagans and Golf courses, I highlighted Assam’s untapped tourism potential and the diverse itineraries we can offer to Japanese visitors.” 

The chief minister’s visit is part of outreach effort to position Assam as a destination for investment ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, scheduled for February 25 and 26.
